Templates

Ira includes templates for each page type that Shopify supports.

Use templates to design pages

Use the theme editor to preview and customize templates with Ira's available sections and theme settings.

In the theme editor (Customize):

STEPS
  1. Use the Templates selector to open a template.

  2. Under Preview, click Change to see how your different pages will look with this template.

    If a warning icon (!) appears, you will need to assign the template to your page in the Shopify admin. You must have a purchased copy of the theme to assign templates.

  3. To assign a template, go to the your page in the Shopify admin and use the Theme template menu to select a specific template.

  1. Click Save.

Create and assign multiple templates

You can create multiple templates for Products, Collections, Pages, Blogs, and Blog posts. To create specific templates for different pages, create a new template in the theme editor and then assign your new template to your pages in the Shopify Admin.

Note: On the trial version, templates cannot be assigned to pages. Templates can be customized and created using the Preview setting in the theme editor, but templates can be assigned in the Shopify admin only after purchasing the theme.

To create and assign a new template:

  1. Use the Templates selector to open the Products, Collections, Pages, Blogs, or Blog posts templates and click Create template.

  2. Name your new template and click Create template.

    The new template will duplicate the Default template.

  3. Under Preview, click Change to see how your different pages will look with this template.

    If a warning icon (!) appears, you will need to assign the template in the Shopify admin.

  4. To assign a template, go to the page in the Shopify admin and use the Theme template menu to select a specific template.

Home page template

Ira's home page is incredibly customizable. It's one of Ira's core features. You can completely customize the pages content using over a dozen home page section layouts.

Collection pages

Ira's Collection pages template is used for all of your collections. Next to the home page, it's Ira's most customizable template.

In addition to changing the look and feel how the collection items are displayed, you can add the following sections to your collection pages:

  • Featured collection

  • Collection list

  • Gallery

Note that these settings and sections are shared between all of your store's collections.

Blogs

You can customize how your Blogs page looks. The blogs page is where you can find a list of all your blog posts.

In addition to changing the look of the page, you can add the following section type to your blog posts pages:

  • Featured collection

Customize your blogs page

To customize your blogs page:

STEPS
  1. From your Customize theme editor, choose Blogs from the pages drop-down menu at the top of the screen.

  2. Select Blog pages from the list of sections.

  3. Choose how many Articles per row should be displayed. (Either Two or Three.)

  4. Choose whether to Show RSS icon.

    RSS is a way for customers to subscribe to your blog. Only some people use it, but the people who do love it. Learn more about it from RSS.com's article How Do RSS Feeds Work?. The RSS icon looks like this:

  5. Choose whether this page should Show article excerpts.

    You can add excerpts when you add or edit the blog post. See Shopify's Display an excerpt from a blog post documentation for instructions. If you don't do this, Ira automatically adds a preview of the first few sentences and then trails off with a "...".

  6. Choose an Image aspect ratio for all blog post images.

    This setting auto-crops images to a single aspect ratio, making it easy to quickly add images and make them look uniform.

    Use the Natural option if you don't want images to be auto-cropped.

  7. Click Save.

Settings reference

The Blog pages template has the following settings:

Articles per row

Choose how many articles to show per row of blog posts. Choose either Two or Three.

Show RSS icon

Check this checkbox to show an RSS icon that links to the current blog's RSS feed.

Show article excerpts

Check this checkbox to show article excerpts on the blogs page.

If you leave this unchecked, only the title and featured image are displayed.

Image aspect ratio

Use this setting to automatically crop images to a specific aspect ratio. Choose from Square (1:1), Landscape (3:2), or Portrait (2:3) aspect ratios.

Choose Natural if you do not want your images to be cropped.

Blog posts

You can customize how your blog posts look and feel.

Cart

Ira's cart page is simple and shows customers exactly what they need to see.

Here it is on a mobile device::

By default, the cart page is automatically updated whenever the customer makes changes to their cart contents, even if they do it in another browser tab. We recommend leaving this setting alone, but it can be turned off if an app or customization requires it.

To customize the cart page:
